What is an A.A. District?

An Alcoholics Anonymous District, such as District 3, is a cluster of Groups within an Area that have chosen to share together, supporting one another, and working closely and cooperatively to carry the AA message more effectively through 12th Step Service Work. Usually, there is a common bond between the groups, such as a shared geographical location, like a group of parishes in the case of District 3. The District is part of the AA General Service Structure.

What does it mean by service work?

Service is a means through which Members can pass on the AA message and support the AA Fellowship as a whole. Service work helps the alcoholic stay sober, enabling the Member to serve the Fellowship with increasing understanding. AA Service is not accurately described as ‘getting into AA politics.

District 3 coordinates the groups efforts in spreading A.A.’s message to treatment, correction, professional, and other contacts within the community.
